Consistency is Key

Today I’m writing about something that I should’ve taken more attention of myself all those years ago when I first started out on this journey of online marketing.

The topic is about consistent focus. I’m writing about this today because it’s something that I know I’ve failed to do and this post will act as a reminder to myself that today was the day that I made the decision to take my own advice and do what I say for once…and that is to have consistent focus in everything I do.

Without consistent focus it will be very hard to reach my goals and live the life I want to live. It will be impossible to reach my dreams and have the business that I want to have which will give me the income I want to live my life the way I want.

You should be thinking about this topic too. If you’re reading this you may be one of the very few people in this world that is currently “in flow” and you are producing results from “consistent focus”. If so then fabulous, good luck to you. Why not give the rest of us some ideas about how you do it and how you keep yourself from falling by the wayside and straying from your focus. Add a reply to this post…please. We would like to know how you do it.

As for those of you reading this and thinking “yes, that’s me. Bright shiny object syndrome..on to the next best thing.” As yourself this (I have asked myself this already and the answer is it hasn’t worked for me!)…has this approach worked so far for you? Where are you now in comparison to where you were or where you wanted to be.

Examples of consistent focus:

Regular blog posts, producing videos for your video training sessions on a regular basis e.g. one per day, regular bank reconciliations of your accounts if you’re doing your own books and so on.

Don’t let things build up until they’re too much to do in one go. Bite sized chunks is best and that’s where consistent focus is your FRIEND.

So, I will start to listen to my own advice starting today. The question is…will YOU?

I’d love to hear your thoughts please. Write a quick comment/response below.

What does it mean? Well I looked it up at and there are a number of different meanings, but the meaning I’m trying to get across to you in this blogpost can be see in 7 and 8 below:

verb (used with object), focused, focusing or (especially British) focussed, focussing.
to bring to a focus or into focus; cause to converge on a perceived point:
to focus the lens of a camera.
to concentrate: to focus one’s thoughts;
to focus troop deployment in the east.

You see…when trying to make money online, starting a new job, in fact when learning any new skill it takes time and effort and FOCUS to make a success of it.

So the acronym of this word that I’ve heard mentioned (and a word that I first heard many years ago) is this…
F.O.C.U.S – get it! That is it. Now I caveat that with making sure your ‘course’, whatever that course is, has the potential to give you what it is you want or need, e.g. money, skills, the body you want etc. Don’t FOCUS on the wrong things. Instead FOCUS on the right things that get you where you want to go and keep at it. Don’t give up.

If you try something you might succeed at it.
If you don’t try something you’ll never succeed at it!

So how does this manifest in real life? Great question! Glad you asked!

So…I’m afraid to say 99% of the population have adult ADD (attention deficit disorder) and cannot stick to one thing at a time. You might’ve heard of something called “bright shiny object syndrome”! Well this is the problem I have faced and I’m trying to fight it 🙂

Basically it’s where I see something that potentially could make money and help advance my goals, yet I don’t invest the time or effort into it and oops…then something else comes along with more potential to make money.

Most things can make you money, if you FOCUS on it. It doesn’t have to be complicated. But again one word of warning…make SURE what it is you think you want to do/try is capable of making you money. Check the market and whether there’s demand there.

So remember…don’t do as I do, do as I say (and I’m taking doses of my own medicine here too) and FOCUS! Follow ONE course until successful (and you have to define what success is for you).

Until next time…keep going.

How To Create A Website (Video)

Just Keep Going!

As you can see from the date of this post it’s been a while since I last wrote anything here.

Why is that?

Why, when I love to keep in touch with you, my subscribers and followers, do I not seem to find the time to write something that will help you in your business or your life when at the end of the day that is what I want to do?

Good question!

I’ve been pondering that question for a while (inbetween firefighting a number of issues in my other business) and I’ll be honest here (as I always am of course!).

Life and my other business did get in the way… quite a bit actually. And before you say it, I know…that’s no real excuse, but maybe you know this already when it happens to you but  frankly, I felt guilty.

I felt that the longer that time went on and I still hadn’t written anything and contacted you it was going to be harder to contact you and write something that you’d find valuable and I felt more and more guilty. It was all in my own head though.

People are forgiving…generally. But the one person that isn’t so forgiving is yourself (or me in this case). I was giving myself a hard time for not sitting down and writing something for you. Something educational or inspirational etc.

So what I had to do was just accept what had happened…life got in the way a bit…but the important things is to get back on track and start again…whatever you can do, just do it, however small it might seem to you.

Then begin to build up momentum until you get back on track and you’re up to speed again. Even if you weren’t at any specific speed…just start again. Have a think about what you want to do and need to do and then break it down into small bite-size chunks and concentrate on getting

Stop beating yourself up over what happened. Just get back up, dust yourself off and start again. Write that blog post. Create that video training session. Write that letter that you’ve been putting off for so long…just do it.

I had that lesson from a very good friend of mine. You need someone to look out for you and cover your back when you get side-tracked. They need to help you see you’ve got off track and try to get you back on the track. You need a community.

Community is what will help you stay or get back on track and I’m part of a community that helps me do just that.

It’s a membership site by Chris Farrell – he’s got a fabulous forum full of very helpful people that I find I can ask questions of at any time when I get stuck. It’s like having a load of mentors in your own back pocket!

Click HERE to find out more about it and to help keep you on track going forward.

P.S. well worth setting up a weekly reminder to visit the site and have a quick look around for ideas and inspiration for the next blog entry…that way you won’t leave it so long next time!

What Are The Main Ways To Make Money?

Everybody (well…usually everybody) wants to make more money. We want to not only have more but to be more and do more. More for ourselves, for our families, for our community, for our church and our favourite charities. It’s a natural progression in life but to do all this we need

Some want more money than others…and that’s okay. We all have different wants and needs and desires. But the key thing in life is that as human beings we have to sit down and really think about what it is that we want in life… like how much money we want (or need) to make the life that we want the way that we want it.  It never ceases to amaze me how many times I’ve seen or heard people say “I want to be a MILLIONAIRE”.

“Yay” I think to myself…that’s great…but what is it that you propose to do with the million once you get it…and more importantly, HOW do you intend to make that million (or more)?

Different Ways To Make Money

There are so many ways to make money. Most of us make money in the offline world, ie from a job. And that’s okay…but a job has its limitations. I’ll go into those limitations in a bit more detail in a moment. The other way is online, i.e. via the internet. The internet (the greatest gift and tool ever) is a medium that allows us to make money while we sleep (literally). Or it enables us to extend our natural boundaries and go global. Never before has it been so easy to do this.

Online versus Offline
Online businesses have a major advantage over an offline (or what’s called a “brick and mortar”) business. For one thing in the online world you don’t have the massive overheads that you have in the offline world. You also have a far greater reach and you’re not relying on local traffic and footfall, always hoping that your customers will walk in off the street and buy something.

I’d like to make a point here though about making money and the various methods that we can use to do so. I’ve been on this planet for a very long time. Unfortunately I have finally had to admit to myself that I am what one would deem to be a slow learner! Man-DepressIt takes me a little while and several attempts to “get it”. What I’m talking about is the fact that I’ve been making money the inefficient way since the late 1990s! I’ve been working…in a job…yet since around the end of 2002 I kinda realised that having an online business could be better than doing a 40hour + a week job in an office. But the internet was still a mystery to me. It was so complicated to get to grips with all the different strands that are needed to piece it together and make real money.

Sidetracked by Property
In the meantime I figured I could look at property as a way to financial freedom. So I invested in property.A person holding a miniature house and some dollar bills Slowly, over a period of time, I built a very small property portfolio…I saved hard and invested every penny I earned into buying property. Do you know what? I don’t make any money from the properties! Hard to accept that eh? Well it’s true. Properties have to be maintained and refurbished regularly and painted and on and on and on. There are a whole host of expenses that properties attract and when I sat and did my numbers I couldn’t believe that over the years I’ve racked up a whopping £40,000 (roughly) tax LOSS. That means I’ve spent way more than I’ve earned from the cashflow from the properties and the overspend is being supported by MORE DEBT! Not good is it.

And would you believe it…property was really just another time suck. Granted the long term possibilities were better than being in a job, but when I sat and thought about it…I was spending alot of time at home or at the property working on the property or with the tenants. Also the property investment market is highly regulated… and GETTING WORSE. The risks associated with property investment and landlording are growing… with the biggest risks coming from the tenants themselves!

Ticking Time-Bombs!
So basically all my tenants are walking time-bombs…ready to go off and explode in my face. Time Bomb TNT DynamiteOne thing goes wrong and they call in the environmental health department…then it’s downhill from there. Bureaucracy, paperwork, massive expense. Contrast this with an online business. Much less risk and opportunities for things to go wrong. Yes…things will go wrong…but in the online world the downsides are much smaller provided you stick to some basic rules.

As I said earlier, there are some problems with offline businesses when compared with online based businesses. What are they? Well the main one is the amount of startup capital that you need to invest in a brick and mortar business. You need to lease premises (shop), fit the shop out, buy equipment, buy stock, hire staff, advertise heavily for customers and so on. It’s a similar issue with property. You need to have a large deposit, refurbish the property, furnish the property, use the services of a variety of professionals to purchase, refurbish and let out the property and so on.

Now where the job is concerned, you are trading time for money. Money Time Buttons Show Prosperity Or IncomeYou have to be at your place of work for a set number of hours. You get paid for those hours and maybe more for overtime etc. But your pay is fixed and you’ll only get pay increases once a year on average, if at all.

The end result is that it will take you a lifetime to SAVE a million. With an offline business you have an 85% chance of FAILURE in the first five years of the life of your business. So the odds are stacked against you.

Hard Work And Good Marketing
However, there is a way you can earn that million and that is if you use the internet to create or host your business. With hard work man-jumpand good marketing it IS possible to make this kind of money and live your life the way YOU want to live it. The best thing though is that the startup costs for setting up your business online are waaaaay lower than offline businesses. And as regards the job, the online based business gives you the opportunity of working hard once to create a product or campaign or strategy etc…set it up and then let it sell on autopilot. Set up a number of income streams like this and soon you’ll be able to replace your day job income and then leave the job.

This is just the start of the journey. Next time I will dig into which online opportunities may be best depending on your personal circumstances.
